Volunteer groups: Archaeology

Archaeology

Volunteers in the Archaeology Group will be offered training and the opportunity of working alongside professional archaeologists, helping to carry out a wide range of archaeological tasks.

Excavation: The current season of excavation at the villa will take place from June to September 2011.

Surveying: There may be some limited surveying, if required, in 2011.

Recording: The recording of finds for 2011 started when the digging resumed, in June

Finds processing : The artefacts recovered during the last season of excavation are already being processed.

Volunteers, under the direction of experts, are currently engaged in marking the finds. So far, about forty contexts of pottery have been marked.

Finds processing takes place at 65 Tontine Street on the following days:

Monday: 18.30 – c. 20.30

Friday: 10.00 – 15.00

Saturday: 10.00 – 15.00

Publication of results: Results will be published as and when the various stages have been completed.
