Site Supervisor’s excavation diary – week eleven (October 10th to 16th, 2010)

Sunday 10th October.  KP, AR, RH and 19 volunteers

     Continued digging in the North-East area.  Back-filled Room 53 with ash (by hand).  Continued digging below Room 50.  Did finds washing on site.  Dry all day and sunny.

Monday 11th  October.  KP, BC, RH and 10 volunteers

     Back-filled Room 52 with ash (by hand).  Did recording and drew sections.  Continued checking paper work.  Did finds washing on site.  Site visit from Ian Coulson.  Dry but very windy. 

Tuesday 12th October.  KP, BC, RH and 8 volunteers

     Continued digging in the North-East area.  Recorded features exposed in Trench 1.  Did finds washing on site.  Completed back-filling of Room 52.

Wednesday 13th October.  KP, BC, RH and 10 volunteers

     Continued digging in the North-East area.  Continued digging in Room 50 – took photographs.   Examined wall junctions at Room 24/52 interface.  Did finds washing on site.  Site visits from PB, MG and Andy Linklater (all CAT).  Dry all day

Thursday 14th October.  KP, RH and 12 volunteers

     Continued digging in the North-East area.  KP made notes on exposed villa structure.  Dull and cold all day.

Friday 15th October.  KP, BC, RH and 7 volunteers

     Continued digging in the North-East area.  Now mostly down to natural clay.  Did planning in Trench 1.  Took final photographs here.  Dry all day.

Saturday 16th October.  KP and 11 volunteers

     Showers all day made working difficult.  Continued digging in Trench 1 and the North-East area.  Dug out early ditch below Room 50.  Did finds washing on site.
